about
This song features bass, an unusual instrument to solo on a pop album. The main harmonic content was written by bass player Mike Luzecky. ‘Ties’ describes the confusion and sadness surrounding a break up, one that you don’t want but know is necessary: ‘I didn’t want to leave you/ I didn’t want you to leave/ I didn’t wanna need you/ Found myself with all this grief.” On the one hand, you would give yourself completely to this person, but on the other hand, you know in your heart they will never treat you how you deserve to be treated: ‘I said I’d wait forever/ But you just take your time.” Ultimately, it concludes with advising us of the best approach: ‘Break away, cut the ties, in the crowd your face is just a passerby.”
lyrics
I didn’t want to leave you,
I didn’t want you to leave.
I didn’t want to need you,
Found myself with all the grief.
Break away, cut the Ties,
In the crowd your face is just a passerby.
I said I’d wait forever,
But you just take your time.
As I sit here thinking,
You’re always on my mind
Break away, cut the Ties,
In the crowd your face is just a passerby
Break away, cut the Ties,
In the crowd your face is just a passerby.
Break away, break away, break away, break away…
Break away, cut the Ties,
In the crowd your face is just a passerby.
